It has been raining for 2 days but we think that better days are around the corner. All are praying for the city as it begins a big festival on Friday. Talking negative about an event that citizens have greatly enjoyed for a long time is a little difficult for me but this word popped out of the Bible last week, ‘Unrestrained.’ And God said this about the Israelites in Exodus 32, they ‘have corrupted themselves'(NASB). We are still believing God will change multitudes somehow. This past Sunday, five came to church for the first time….3 from Brazil, one from Peru, and one from Japan. I enjoy meeting people for the first time. God is doing something good. And again, thank you for praying for us!
It has been perfect weather for a few days and wow…the flowers! (See video). This is a special time for flowers all over the city and more will appear by the weekend. This past Sunday we had 2 to attend the morning meeting for the first time. Too many were absent because of school activities for their children but they’ll be back. Each meeting finishes with someone needing prayer for a serious problem but the church is the place to ask for help! This past Sunday a distraught mother whose grandmother died in the Philippines last week said an aunt fell at the funeral with a 3 year old niece whose head was seriously injured on a steel fence. Another young wife said her husband is wanting a divorce. Lord, have mercy! Thank you for praying for us and others. The flowers are beautiful but we must keep looking for help from the Almighty. God bless you more!
It has been a beautiful day but sad to say that all the cherry blossoms have fallen off. They did not last long this year….less than a week. Not sure why the blossoms fell off so quickly but maybe it was because of the ‘typhoon’ wind we have had for about 7 or 8 straight days. Today, no wind. Hallelujah! But the meeting at the church this past Sunday was good. We had 2 attend the church for the first time…a young couple from Brazil. We have started weekly prayer again for our city since the first week of May will be the annual kite festival which is accompanied by a lot of drinking and very loud trumpets and drums. (Short You Tube video of previous festival made by somebody: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2uIa7z44cI
We don’t take videos of this event since we don’t attend for a lot of reasons. But we pray. Christian concerts, special meetings, and church youth events should take place instead of the festival but….the Lord hasn’t started that plan yet but we keep asking Him. Again, thank you for praying for us. April is going to be a good month for the church! God bless you all today!
Yes, the cherry trees are full of beautiful blossoms today. And….what will the Lord do today in this nation? Thank you again for praying for us. We had a great Sunday which included singing new songs to the Lord. And Ruth is back which made so many sisters very happy. To her surprise, they presented her with a beautiful expensive bag….the Filipino sisters really love her. We are thinking of a BBQ in the near future. No, it’s not really an evangelistic event as much as a longer time to encourage each other and make joy abound. Another recent large gathering of Christians in Kyoto was filled with foreigners from around the world who believe this year will be a good year for the church. Hallelujah! Thank you for supporting us! And God bless you all today!
Well, we have entered April and March ended so well for us. We had 7 people to attend the church for the first time this past Sunday. I sense a greater need for God’s help to lead these people….my weaknesses are so great BUT….our God loves me and wants to be glorified in my weakness. Hallelujah! Thank you so much for praying for us. Ruth returns from Honolulu this Thursday and I will be glad to have her back. She is the ‘mother’ to so many ladies in our church. Cherry trees are not blooming yet but maybe this month. Again, you all are so special to us. Last month, at a conference I attended via the Internet, a Canadian minister spoke again about what he believes the Lord will do this year in Japan. It will be great. And you all have given so much so we expect to share the joy with you! May He bless you more and more this month! Love to all….

Dear Family and Friends around the world
Yes, you thought I was still in Honolulu, Right? Got back last Friday. It was a short trip but good to be with my kids and grandkids. And…Elisabeth is expecting her 6th child in October!!!!! No, she is not bouncing off the walls with joy because….she feels really sick all day! Ruth is staying with her for another week to cook and take care of her 4 kids! So, going to be a grandfather again this year! At the church, (no birthday party) it was another great time of worship and fellowship. Spring has almost arrived! Thank you for praying for us. We need to touch more who are sick. We need to comfort more who are hurting. We need to say words which open eyes to see the light. ‘Light arises in the darkness for the upright.’ God bless you all today. Love from both us…
Ben&Ruth (A short video will be attached next week! We eat together!)
Yes, you are getting this little note from us a few days early because….we will soon leave for Kobe and be with our daughter and son-in-law when their twins are dedicated to the Lord in Osaka on Sunday. Then Sunday night we fly to Honolulu to visit a few more kids and kiddies. A sweet Brazilian brother will lead the church for the next few days. He is so passionate about seeing Japanese come to the Lord. He gets Japanese citizenship this month I think. He’s here to stay and see God do great things. Ruth celebrates her ‘less than 70th birthday’ tomorrow but ladies celebrated with her last Saturday so here are those pics. Each birthday reminds us of some of you who sent us out more than 40 years ago. Wow! And you still stick with us! You still give….you still pray…you still hope for great things to happen here. It’s about all our God, isn’t it. And may He bless you more as spring arrives. We love you….
It is a beautiful Monday afternoon but we are a little busy because we will go to Kobe later this week and then on Honolulu to see some of the our kids and the kiddies. However, thank you for praying for us!!! Yesterday one lady from the Philippines came for the first time and….one Filipina became a member of the church. We were so excited for this mother who has two teenage sons and no husband….he passed away several years ago. As I and the church overseer prayed for her, another lady saw a black thing pass in front of her and out of the room. She really felt something had left the new member. Well, islands like Japan have plenty of those things. Wow! Please ask the Lord to bless the church in Japan. Spring does not always bring fresh hope but sometimes more disappointments. My theme for yesterday’s message was, ‘fight the good fight of faith’. Yes, we will. Hallelujah! Expecting more to believe in the risen Savior! Love to all…
Yes, it is Wednesday here and a little warmer but it looks like Spring is still hiding somewhere. But that’s OK…it will arrive soon. Now the plum blossoms are so beautiful. And I have no video to show you but….a few pictures which are attached below. The meeting this past Sunday was encouraging because a mother brought her teenage son and a Brazilian couple have been attending regularly. We are still dreaming of moving to a better location but the needs of several have our attention at this time. This coming Sunday we will introduce a new member of the church, a sweet Filipino sister. What else? Thank you for praying for us. News from two sources have revealed that some pastors are struggling to keep from ‘burning out’. We have close to that feeling but so thankful that the Lord came to our rescue. This was the theme of last Sunday’s message: ‘Let us lay aside every encumbrance and sin and run the race that is set before us’. We love you all….
We had a great time on Sunday and also celebrated the birthday of two people with two cakes. So amazing. One man has a Christian wife and she surprised him with the cake. He is slowly opening his heart to the Lord….really good changes. This encourages us so much. I talked to another husband who is faithfully coming with his Christian wife and he said, ‘I want to come to this church!’. God is working in all of us. Thank you again for praying. Difficulties follow in our shadows but the light still shines and reveals a better future. Thank You, Jesus. You all are so special to us. We hope the short videos give you a glimpse of what you have invested in. And that makes a wonderful future for you! Much love to you from the far side of the Pacific!
